Our Tools

The Leadership Crucible has won praise for the innovative tools it has integrated into its programs. Some of the tools we use include:

Technique

Description

CrucibleCases™

Customized case studies oriented around a problem or set of questions that small groups works on together. Small group work is followed by plenary discussions during which the facilitator will make sure key “learning points” are covered.  In addition to helping participants learn about a particular topic, CrucibleCases™ help develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills.

CrucibleGobbets

CrucibleGobbets build on a teaching tool developed by Professor Daniel Bromley at the University of Wisconsin.  In advance of class, students are asked to prepare a 1-page response to a pertinent question. This helps them think through a topic without placing an undue burden on them. It also helps facilitate discussion and improve writing skills.

CrucibleToolkits™

Two- to four-page documents that provide an overview of a particular topic and/or practical advice and tools.

Small Group Exercises

Exercises done in small groups which allow participants to practice collaborating and to take on leadership roles.

Self-Assessments

Tools participants will use to assess their strengths and weaknesses; they also help reinforce important elements of leadership.

Presentations

Individual and group presentations used to practice public speaking and to debrief small group work.

Videos

Short videos from various sources including Ted.com.

Panel Discussions Short presentations from a panel of 3-5 participants (often women leaders), followed by questions from participants.
360 Degree Feedback in 2nd year(pending funding)

Systematic feedback from supervisors, colleagues, and subordinates; synthesized to give participants a better understanding of their leadership strengths and weaknesses.
